Some Days

September 5th, 2007

It has always been my dream to write for a living. I was always writing stories as a child. My head was always full of magic, as the saying goes.

When I was an accountant, I would spend ages thinking about how cool it would be to work from home, to write, to rise at ten and work into the night. I could take a long lazy lunch if I felt like it. My reading habits would be considered research. I could spend hours in cafés sipping Americanos and idly watching pretty girls as they wander by.

Of course professional writing is not always so idyllic. The copywriter often has to write about many things of which he has no interest. Shoddy businesses or simply boring ones. Services so appalling I wouldn’t recommend them to my sworn enemies.

But then, some days are simply brilliant. Summer days strolling through Nottingham en route to interview interesting people and see wonderful and innovative creative companies. Between appointments I can be found in tea shops or pottering in book shops. I’m happy. Happy as I could ever be.
